Hearing Awareness Week - Aug 2006 Print
This year the informal opening of Hearing Awareness was held at a “Celebration” at the National Acoustic Laboratories at Greville Street, Chatswood on the evening of Monday 21st August. About ten of our members attended and were impressed by the facilities and equipment shown during a tour of the establishment. Quite a number had already attended the annual Church Service at St Philip's on Sunday 20th August, where we were privileged to participate in the service and enjoyed morning tea afterwards with members of the congregation.

Roma Wood had a busy week, with her pre-recorded talk and interview on local community radio being broadcast on the Monday, and addressing the staff of the Taxation Department on the Wednesday, advising the needs of their hearing-impaired staff members.
She also addressed the Filippino Support Group at Merrylands Community Centre. The audience consisted of about 30 English speaking people aged between the mid-50s and mid-80s.

Sr Mary Silk arranged an exhibition and refreshments at Windsor Library and the Mayor of Windsor and the Manager for Access attended as well as the class and the Sydney President. All were impressed by the modest presentation. For her Monday morning class, Mary was planning to have the Strathfield Mayor and the State MP attend, probably on successive weeks. This was found impractical but for her Chatswood evening class, she was visited by Dr Brendan Nelson, local Federal MP and now Minister for Defence.
